N,N-Diethylcyclohexylamine is a fatty alcohol that can be synthesized from the reaction of sodium salts with styryl dye. Reaction products include methyl ethyl, hydroxyl group, amines and diazonium salt. The synthesis of N,N-diethylcyclohexylamine is achieved through a three step process involving phosphorus pentoxide, sodium carbonate and phosphorus pentachloride. The first step involves heating the reactants to produce a mixture of sodium salts and styryl dye. The second step involves adding phosphorous pentoxide to the mixture which produces methyl ethyl and hydroxy group. Lastly, sodium carbonate is added to the mixture which produces an amine and a diazonium salt.
