- 2,7-Dimethylquinoline
2,7-Dimethylquinoline is an oxidation product of 2,6-dimethylquinoline and a potent inhibitor of the growth of human liver cancer cells. It also inhibits the production of CCl4 by human liver cells. The inhibition is thought to be due to the inhibition of cytochrome P450 enzymes that metabolize CCl4 into toxic metabolites. The selectivity of 2,7-Dimethylquinoline for human liver cancer cells may be due to its ability to inhibit the formation of reactive oxygen species in these cells, which are required for cell proliferation. 2,7-Dimethylquinoline has been shown to inhibit the growth of other cancer cells in culture as well as in animal models.
