N-(2-Tolyl)formamide is a molecule that belongs to the group of isonitriles. It has an isomerism that can be either conformational or rotameric. The conformational form has two possible rotamers, and the rotameric form has one conformer. This compound was shown to be toxic in experimental studies, causing effects such as convulsions, lethargy, and coma. N-(2-Tolyl)formamide also showed some solvent effects with toluidine (a colorless liquid with a sweet odor) and carbonyls (compounds containing a carbonyl group). The molecule is classified as an amide, which contains both an amine group and a carboxyl group. N-(2-Tolyl)formamide contains a pyrrole ring on the nitrogen atom.
