Description:

3-Amino-4-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid is a compound that can be synthesized in two steps from benzene and nitric acid. It is used as a reagent for the determination of aromatic amines by using an electrochemical oxidation method. The analysis of 3-amino-4,5-dihydroxynitrosamine (3A4DNH) is important to assess the risk of pollution by aromatic amines in rivers. 3A4DNH can be used as an electrode reaction to measure the concentration of aromatic amines in water samples. The reactivity of 3A4DNH with nitrite ions is the key factor for its ability to oxidize aromatic amines to their corresponding hydroxylamine derivatives.
