Phenoxybenzamine hydroxide is a drug substance that is used as an antihypertensive agent. It was originally developed to be used in the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure, but it is now mainly used to treat high blood pressure during pregnancy. Phenoxybenzamine hydroxide binds to alpha-adrenergic receptors and blocks the action of norepinephrine at these sites. This leads to a decrease in the constriction of blood vessels, thereby reducing blood pressure. Phenoxybenzamine hydroxide is available in tablet form for oral administration. It has a molecular weight of 510.23 and an impurity profile similar to phenoxybenzamine (i.e., no more than 5% for any single impurity).
