Dibenzyl ether is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the class of ethers. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes and it is used in wastewater treatment for the removal of methyl glycosides. Dibenzyl ether has also been shown to have biological properties when tested on human serum, as well as on benzyl and dibenzyl. In a reaction solution, Dibenzyl ether can react with anhydrous sodium (NaOH) to form NaDBE and hydrogen gas (H2). X-ray diffraction data shows that Dibenzyl ether contains nitrogen atoms. Structural analysis reveals that the molecule consists of two benzene rings connected by two ethylene bridges.
