5-Diethylamino-2-pentanone is an organic molecule that has a proton in its orientation. It also contains amines and hydroxide groups, which are functional groups. The compound is used as a reagent to produce a 5-amino-2-pentanol derivative by reacting with an alcohol. 5DAP can be synthesized from ethanolamine and chloroacetic acid in the presence of hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution. 5DAP has been used to inhibit protein synthesis and may act as a substrate for FK506 binding protein (FKBP).
