Ethylene Glycol Dibutyrate (EGDB) is a polymer that is soluble in isooctane and insoluble in water. It has film-forming properties, which make it useful as a polarizer and solid catalyst. EGDB has been shown to be an effective antifungal agent against Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans, and Aspergillus fumigatus. The molecular weight of EGDB ranges from 1,000-2,000 kDa. The carbonyl group on the molecule interacts with hydrogen bonds to form polymers with other substances such as water or polyvinyl alcohol. This interaction creates an insoluble polymer that can be used in chromatography. Due to its high activation energy and low phase transition temperature, EGDB is not suitable for use as a polymeric material for use in electronic devices such as televisions or computers because it would melt at room temperature.
