Description:

5-Methylbenzene-1,3-diamine (5MBDA) is a dianhydride that has been used in the production of polyimides. It has an activation energy of 69.6 kilojoules per mole and can be used to make a range of polyimide resins based on the substituents that are attached to the diamine. 5MBDA is also used in the manufacture of dyes and pigments, as well as benzophenones and benzotriazoles, which have many applications including industrial coatings, plastics, and paper products. 5MBDA can also react with trifluoride ion to produce trifluorobenzene-1,3-diamine (TFBDA), which is used for making fluoroelastomers.
