Description:

Diisobutylcarbinol is an organic compound with the formula CH3(CH2)4CH2OH. It is a colorless liquid that is insoluble in water and soluble in nonpolar organic solvents. This compound is a hydrocarbon, consisting of two groups of four carbon atoms each. The first group has two methyl groups and the second group has two ethyl groups. Diisobutylcarbinol is used as an extractant for fatty acids and as an antimicrobial treatment for acyclic alkanes. It also acts as a redox catalyst in solid form.
