Pentanimidamide is a serine protease inhibitor that binds to the active site of the enzyme and blocks the conversion of serine to pyruvate. It is used in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders, such as congestive heart failure and hypertension, as well as influenza virus infections. Pentanimidamide has shown high cytotoxicity against tumour cells, even when used at low concentrations (less than 1 μM). The drug also inhibits cancer cell proliferation by inhibiting DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. Pentanimidamide has been found to be an efficient method for reducing chloride levels in biological samples.
