Decyl acetate is a liquid fatty acid that has been used as an antibacterial agent. It has shown to be effective against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Decyl acetate also inhibits the growth of gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The mechanism of action for decyl acetate is not fully understood, but it is thought that it may be due to its hydroxyl group or reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.
