- Pyridine, 2-(2-methoxyethyl)-
2-(2-Methoxyethyl)pyridine is an anthelmintic drug that has been shown to be effective against nematodes and tapeworms. It binds to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which is found in the worm's motor nerve cells, leading to paralysis and death. 2-(2-Methoxyethyl)pyridine has been shown to have high anthelmintic efficacy in experimental models of nematodirus and sheep liver fluke. It also inhibits protein synthesis by blocking the transfer of amino acids from one end of a ribosome to another. This drug has been used as a model for drugs that inhibit protein synthesis as it interacts with a cholinergic receptor and blocks the release of acetylcholine, which prevents muscle contraction. 2-(2-Methoxyethyl)pyridine also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
