8-Hydroxynaphthalene-1,6-disulfonic acid is a colorless to light yellow crystalline solid. It is soluble in water and alcohols. The chemical compound can form salts with many cations such as ammonium, sodium, potassium, and calcium. 8-Hydroxynaphthalene-1,6-disulfonic acid reacts with 1-amino-2-naphthol 4-sulfonic acid and 2-naphthol 6,8 disulfonic acid in the presence of ammonium sulfate to form an equimolar mixture of 1-(2'-nitrophenyl) 3-(2'-nitrophenyl) benzenediazonium sulfate. This reaction may be used for the preparation of a substance that may be analyzed by analytical methods such as gas chromatography or high performance liquid chromatography.
