Uramil is a cytotoxic agent that contains an amide group. It reacts with nitrogen atoms in the cell and forms a redox cycle, which leads to the formation of reactive oxygen species. Uramil also has benzyl groups, alkylthio group, hydroxyl group, and carbonyl groups that increase its cytotoxicity. The glucose analogue increases the solubility of Uramil and makes it easier to purify. It has been shown to be effective against various types of cancer cells in cell culture experiments and also inhibits RNA synthesis in bacteria such as Escherichia coli.
