Tridecylbenzene is a cationic surfactant that is used in detergent compositions to remove fats and oils from clothes. It is also used as a transistor and has shown genotoxic activity in dose groups of rats. Tridecylbenzene has the ability to inhibit bacterial growth and can be used for wastewater treatment. This chemical is toxic to cells, inhibiting mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, fatty acid synthesis, and protein synthesis. Tridecylbenzene also inhibits ryanodine receptor function in rat cardiomyocytes.
