4-Chlorothioanisole is a halogenated aromatic compound that has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in mouse models of autoimmune diseases. It binds to the IL-2 receptor and inhibits IL-2 signaling, which may be due to its ability to inhibit dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase activity. 4-Chlorothioanisole has also been shown to reduce fatty acid levels in mice fed a high fat diet. The toxic effects of 4-chlorothioanisole are not well understood. It has been shown that this chemical can induce liver steatosis in rats, but it does not cause weight gain or changes in body mass index. 4-Chlorothioanisole is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are induced by drugs such as beta blockers and corticosteroids. It is excreted by the kidneys and its pharmacokinetic properties have not been fully studied.
