2,2-Diethoxypropane is a solid catalyst that has been shown to be effective in the oxidation of alcohols and alkyl halides. In particular, this compound has been shown to be more selective than other catalysts for the oxidation of alcohols with a hydroxy group. 2,2-Diethoxypropane is used in the preparation of human liver samples for phylogenetic analysis. This compound also reacts with chloride ions to produce carbonic acid and organometallic compounds such as zirconium oxide. 2,2-Diethoxypropane's electron microscopic study shows that it is a molecule consisting of two ethoxy groups attached to a central carbon atom. The chemical structure of 2,2-diethoxypropane was determined by molecular modeling and kinetic energy calculations.
