Sulfamerazine is a sulfadiazine sodium salt. Sulfamerazine is soluble in water and has high solubility in organic solvents such as acetone and ethanol. It is also soluble in solutions of alkali carbonates, such as sodium carbonate, calcium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, and potassium carbonate. This drug is used as a pharmaceutical dosage form for the treatment of bacterial infections and protozoal infections. Sulfamerazine has been shown to have high values against pullorum disease (a type of avian bacterial infection) and water-borne diseases such as typhoid fever and cholera.
