Bis(4-diethylaminophenyl)methanol is a heat-sensitive oxime that is used as a recording agent for polymers. It reacts with the ketone groups of polyethers, causing them to become insoluble in organic solvents. This reaction can be reversed by heating the polymer. Bis(4-diethylaminophenyl)methanol has a color that ranges from yellow to brown.
