2,4-Diaminodiphenylamine is a pyrrole that can be oxidized to form an aldehyde group. It has been shown to function as an electron acceptor in the oxidation of organic compounds and as a potent oxidant in acid solutions. 2,4-Diaminodiphenylamine has been used in titration methods for determining concentrations of other chemicals. It can also be used to measure the degree of lipid peroxidation in membranes or organisms. The compound has been demonstrated to have high water permeability and is able to transport ions across biological membranes.
