Tripropionin is a tripropionate. It is used as the active ingredient in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of pancreatic enzyme deficiency and to increase bile acid production. Tripropionin can also be used as a cell lysis agent and disinfectant, due to its ability to form strong acid from fatty acids. The analytical method for this substance is based on the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, which measures the equilibrium between the solid phase and gas phase. The nitrogen atoms are responsible for its lipolytic activity, while monoclonal antibodies are needed in order to study its biochemical properties.
