Description

α-Citral is a coumarin derivative that has shown synergistic effects with geranial and eugenol in inhibiting the growth of Candida glabrata. This compound also inhibits the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA binding activity. α-Citral has shown inhibitory properties against receptor activity and wild-type strains of Candida albicans. α-Citral also has been found to have a synergic effect with eugenol against Candida glabrata, while it shows no synergy with geranial. α-Citral is not active against the fungal species C. albicans, C. tropicalis, or C. parapsilosis .
