Hexylamine hydrochloride is an agent used in the preparation of polymers that are designed to be injected into the body. It is a chemical intermediate that is used in the production of hexylamine-trifluoroacetic acid copolymer, which is a polymer drug. Hexylamine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit acetylcholinesterase at concentrations of 10mM and above, and it also inhibits the metabolic rate of rats. The effects of hexylamine hydrochloride on the liver and kidneys were investigated in a long-term study in rats and no adverse effects were observed. Hexylamine hydrochloride can be detected by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) due to its ability to form hydrogen bonding interactions with other chemicals during sample preparation.
