Description

Linalyl propionate is a chemical compound that is used as an active ingredient in pesticides. It is a colorless liquid that has a fruity odor and can be extracted from eugenol, diethyl succinate, or glycol ethers. Linalyl propionate has been shown to have insecticidal properties against the larvae of the housefly and the mosquito Culex pipiens quinquefasciatus. This chemical also has the ability to break down water vapor, which may be due to its hydrophobic nature. Linalyl propionate is also soluble in both water and organic solvents such as acetone, chloroform, and dichloromethane. Linalyl propionate consists of two chains: one chain with a carboxylic acid group at the end (propionic acid) and another chain with an alcohol group at the end (linalool).
