Flavin mononucleotide is a cofactor that provides the redox potential in flavoproteins. It can be used to measure the rate constant of DNA polymerase activity. Flavin mononucleotide binds to DNA by hydrogen bonding and is involved in the apoptosis pathway, where it interacts with dna binding activity and inhibits reactive oxygen species production. Flavin mononucleotide has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
