Pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline is a structural analog of the neurotransmitter serotonin. It has been shown to bind to the 5-HT1A receptor and adenosine A3 receptor. This drug also has potent antagonist effects on 5-HT2 receptors. Pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinoxaline has been shown to decrease the activity of multidrug efflux pumps in cells and can be used as a potential drug target for the treatment of metabolic disorders. In addition, this compound is an agonist at 5-HT receptors and has been shown to have antidepressant properties.
