3-Oxa-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane is a basic and sterically hindered serotonin antagonist with high 5-HT3 receptor affinity. It can be used as an antagonist of the 5-HT3 receptor to treat nausea and vomiting, and has also been shown to have antihypertensive effects. 3-Oxa-9-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane is a potent 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with a binding affinity of Kd=0.2 nM for the rat 5-HT 3A receptor, which is similar to that of ondansetron (Kd=0.5 nM). It also binds to the human 5HT 3A receptor with a potency similar to that of ondansetron, but it does not bind to the human 5HT 3B or 5HT 3C receptors at all.
