Description:

Thionazin is a chemical pesticide that is used to control pests in the field. It is applied as a spray or dust and has a low mammalian toxicity. Thionazin binds to the phosphate bond of ATP, inhibiting energy production and cell division. Thionazin solution has been shown to be effective against resistant cultivars and has little effect on locomotor activity. The chemical can have significant interactions with other pesticides, especially phosphotungstic acid, carbofuran, and p-nitrophenyl phosphate. The effects of thionazin are tested using toxicity studies in rats.
