Product Information

Name:
5-Carbamoylpentanoic acid
Synonyms:
  • 6-Amino-6-oxohexanoic acid
  • Adipamic acid
  • Adipamicacid (6CI,8CI)
  • Adipic acid monoamide
Description:

5-Carbamoylpentanoic acid is a fatty acid that is used in detergent compositions to form soap. It is also used as a raw material for the production of malonic acid, which can be used in the manufacture of polycarboxylic acids. 5-Carbamoylpentanoic acid has been shown to react with phosphorus pentoxide and diammonium hydroxide in a light-emitting reaction. This chemical can form an intermolecular hydrogen bond with amines, which may be due to its high reactivity towards nucleophiles. The reaction mechanism for this chemical is not well understood, but it is thought that it proceeds through an amide or alkyl addition.
