(E)-2-Decenoic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are inflammatory mediators. It has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against human pathogens and clinical relevance as an antimicrobial agent. (E)-2-Decenoic acid has been shown to be highly effective in reducing pain levels in diabetic neuropathy. This compound contains a fatty acid chain with a hydroxyl group at position 2, which is responsible for its inhibitory effect on prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity.
