Product Information
4,4,4-Trifluorocrotonoyl chloride is a photochemical that decarbonylates tert-butyl to produce a lactone. The elimination of the carbonyl group from the lactone produces an alkene and a carbonyl radical. The biradical reacts with oxygen to form an alcohol and a hydrogen peroxide molecule. This reaction can be used for cleavage of carboxylic acids or lactones. When the acid is cleaved, it forms an alcohol and hydrogen chloride (HCl). When the lactone is cleaved, it forms an alcohol and carbon dioxide (CO2).
