(+)-Erythraline is a naturally occurring compound that has been found to have potent anticancer properties. It is a chitin kinase inhibitor that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. (+)-Erythraline has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells in both Chinese hamster ovary cells and human bladder cancer cells. It has also been found to be an effective inhibitor of heparin-induced platelet aggregation and potassium channels in rat urine. This compound is an analog of erythromycin, which is commonly used as an antibiotic, but it lacks antibacterial activity. (+)-Erythraline has potential therapeutic applications for the treatment of various types of cancer.
