Description:

Dichloralphenazone is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat pain and inflammation in the bladder, bowel, and other tissues. It inhibits the release of lipolytic enzymes from membrane cells and has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. Dichloralphenazone also has immunosuppressive properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of neurotrophic factors by macrophages. Dichloralphenazone is used clinically for the treatment of infectious diseases, such as bacterial infections and urinary tract infections; it also has applications in cancer therapy. This drug is available in two enantiomers: R-(+)-dichloralphenazone or S-(-)-dichloralphenazone. The R-(+)-enantiomer is more potent than the S-(-)-enantiomer and has a longer half-life.
