Citreorosein is a chemical compound found in the root of Curcuma aromatica, which is a member of the ginger family. It has been shown to have potent antimicrobial activity against microbial infections, including those caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Citreorosein has also been shown to inhibit neuronal death in cultured rat cortical neurons. This chemical can be prepared by extracting soybean extract with methanol or ethanol and then adding citric acid and potassium hydroxide, which will lead to the formation of curcuminoids. The amount of citreorosein present in this preparation depends on the concentration of soybean extract used. Citreorosein is unstable in water due to its low bioavailability, but stable when complexed with lipoproteins or albumin. Citreorosein has been shown to have anticomplement activity in vitro, which may be related to its ability to bind IgG antibodies and complement proteins C
