Dillapiol is a natural compound that has been shown to scavenge anion radicals and act as a potent inhibitor of the replication of some viruses. Dillapiol also possesses biological properties, including anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and anticancer activities. It is used in pharmaceutical preparations for the treatment of some types of cancer. The effects of dillapiol on human cytochrome P450 (CYP3A4) have been studied extensively and it has been shown to inhibit the metabolism of certain drugs. Dillapiol can also interact with other compounds to produce genotoxic effects. For example, when combined with genotoxic chemicals such as benzo[a]pyrene, dillapiol can increase its genotoxicity. This effect is not seen when dillapiol is used alone.
