4,6-Di-tert-butyl-m-cresol is a phenolic compound that has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of human pathogens. In vitro assays have shown that 4,6-Di-tert-butyl-m-cresol inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by disrupting their cell membranes. This compound also has immunoregulatory effects and can suppress the inflammatory response in mice with colitis. It has been shown to decrease body mass index (BMI) in women with an infection or renal transplantation. 4,6-Di-tert-butyl-m-cresol is also used as a polymer stabilizer for polyvinyl chloride film, which can be found in food packaging and medical devices.
