Methylsuccinic acid is a chemical compound that is used as an oxidation catalyst. It can be used to convert malonic acid, ethylmalonic acid, citric acid, and other multi-walled carbon molecules into their corresponding methyl esters. Methylsuccinic acid also has the ability to catalyze dehydration reactions of carboxylic acids. This chemical compound is also used as a solid catalyst in cell culture and polycarboxylic acid synthesis. In addition, methylsuccinic acid may be present in the environment when there is an acidic condition such as in the stomach or lactic fermentation.
