6-Methylpyridine-2,4-dicarboxylic acid is an organic compound that is a condensation product of formaldehyde and pyridine. It has been used as a bidentate ligand for coordination chemistry, in the synthesis of isonicotinic acid and glyoxal, and as a reactive intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. 6-Methylpyridine-2,4-dicarboxylic acid has also been shown to have biological functions such as inhibition of cell growth and inducing apoptosis. The compound has also been found to be luminescent under certain conditions when exposed to ultraviolet light or electron beam irradiation.
