Product Information
- 4,4'-Dimethylazobenzene
- Bis(4-Methylphenyl)Diazene
- diazene, 1,2-bis(4-methylphenyl)-, (E)-
- (E)-Bis(4-methylphenyl)diazene
1,2-Di-p-tolyldiazene is a yellow crystalline solid with an encapsulation effect. It reacts with hydrogen peroxide to produce a light blue fluorescence. The reaction can be reversed by the addition of acetonitrile or nitro. 1,2-Di-p-tolyldiazene also has a nitro group which is sensitive to oxidation by phosphine and peroxide. 1,2-Di-p-tolyldiazene is used as a ligand in supramolecular chemistry for its ability to form dianions. This compound can be dissolved in acetonitrile and water at temperatures below 25 °C.
