Cyclopentadecanone is a natural compound that has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent. It is synthesized by combining inorganic acid and cyclopentadecanone. Cyclopentadecanone reacts with hydrochloric acid and malonic acid to produce an aldehyde group, which is then reduced to its corresponding alcohol by hydrogen. Cyclopentadecanone has been found to have antimicrobial properties against gram-positive bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, fungi, and yeasts. It also exhibits antibacterial activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates. This compound can be used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of infections caused by these microorganisms, although it is not active against protozoa such as Entamoeba histolytica.
