2,6,6-Trimethyl-2,4-cycloheptadien-1-one is an antimicrobial agent that exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria and fungi. It is a natural compound isolated from the roots of Cimicifuga foetida and Angelica dahurica. This compound has been shown to have antiinflammatory activities in vitro. 2,6,6-Trimethyl-2,4-cycloheptadien-1-one has also been shown to be safe for long term use in rats. Toxicology studies performed on this agent showed no signs of toxicity at high doses up to 1 g/kg body weight. The water vapor stability of 2,6,6-Trimethyl-2,4-cycloheptadien-1-one was found to be poor in vitro assays.
