Elaidyl alcohol is a fatty acid ester of methanol that is used as a viscosity modifier in pharmaceutical preparations, detergent compositions, and conditioning agent. It has also been used to prepare aqueous solutions of betamethasone for injection. Elaidyl alcohol is reactive with cationic surfactants and can be used as an ingredient in biodegradable implants.
