Arsenazo I AR is a chemical reagent that contains neothorine (arsenic trioxide). It is used in analytical chemistry to determine the concentration of thorium. Arsenazo I AR reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce an insoluble particle, which inhibits the growth of bacteria. The linear calibration curve is obtained by plotting the absorbance at 590 nm against the concentration of thorium and can be used to calculate the concentration of thorium in a sample. The inhibitory effect of Arsenazo I AR on bacterial growth has been shown using human serum as a model system. The kinetic process is described by a first-order reaction and can be modeled using Michaelis-Menten kinetics. The molecule consists of two parts: one that analyzes for chemical species and another that analyzes for analytical chemistry. Analytical methods are homogeneous assays that use hydrogen fluoride as a reaction agent and have been shown to have high sensitivity and reproducibility.
