Product Information

Name:
5-Amino-1,3-thiazole-2-carbothioamide
Description:

5-Amino-1,3-thiazole-2-carbothioamide (5ATC) is a liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. It has been used as a starting material for the synthesis of other compounds. 5ATC can be prepared by the reaction of ethyl acetoacetate with an acid chloride and a base such as pyridine. The reaction is heated to reflux for about 2 hours in an organic solvent, such as chloroform or benzene, followed by cooling to room temperature. It can also be prepared from an amide and hydrogen chloride gas in the presence of pyridine. This synthesis requires manual stirring at room temperature for 12 hours. 5ATC can be purified by recrystallization from water or ether.
