Synonyms:
  • Isobutyl carbonate
  • NSC 4009
  • Diisobutyl carbonate
  • Carbonic acid, diisobutyl ester
Description:

Carbonic acid, bis(2-methylpropyl) ester (CBP) is an antimicrobial agent that is used in the treatment of infectious diseases. CBP has a polycarboxylic acid structure and is synthesized by a synthetic pathway reaction where the reactants are mixed with a solid catalyst. CBP has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity, which may be due to its ability to bind to fatty acids and hydroxyl groups. The biological studies on CBP have revealed that it inhibits growth factors and causes apoptosis, or programmed cell death. This compound also has an asymmetric synthesis, which means that it can only be made one way and not the other way around.
