Cadmium(II) acetate is a chemical compound that is structurally related to the peptide hormone angiotensin II. It has been shown to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and to stimulate vasopressinase, which breaks down the hormone vasopressin. Cadmium(II) acetate has also been found to be a potent inhibitor of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R). This drug is not toxic in human serum or water vapor, and it does not cause genotoxicity or carcinogenicity in animal studies. Cadmium(II) acetate has been shown to bind with hydrogen bonding interactions with nucleobases and other functional groups on DNA and RNA molecules. This binding inhibits the synthesis of proteins by RNA polymerase, leading to cell death.
