(+)-Lupanine perchlorate is a quinolizidine alkaloid that inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria, such as Clostridium and Bacillus. (+)-Lupanine perchlorate has been shown to increase the number of chloroplasts in wheat germ, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of chlorophyll. It also inhibits gram-positive bacteria by binding to the hydroxyl groups on the cell wall membrane, inhibiting their enzyme activity. (+)-Lupanine perchlorate is found in plants such as Pilocarpus and Triticum aestivum.
