Zinc formate is a compound that exists in two phases at room temperature: a crystalline solid and a liquid. It is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of water content in wastewater and as a catalyst for the oxidation of formic acid to carbon dioxide. Zinc formate is also used as an antimicrobial agent, which inhibits the growth of bacteria by reacting with the enzyme polymerase chain reaction and preventing DNA synthesis. This chemical can be synthesized from zinc oxide and formic acid.
