Description:
Delta3,5-cholestadien-7-one is a naturally occurring oxysterol that is formed in the liver when cholesterol is metabolized. Delta3,5-cholestadien-7-one inhibits cellular uptake of cholesterol and has been shown to reduce high levels of cholesterol in the blood by inhibiting hydroxylation reactions. This substance also has inhibitory properties against fatty acid synthesis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase.
